Shatemuc
Shatemuc was built by my own hands from the ground up on the shores of the Hudson River. The original inhabitants of these lands were the Lenape who called the Hudson River "Shatemuc," meaning "the river that flows both ways." The home's seclusion affords tranquility and connection to nature yet it is minutes from downtown Kingston. The exposed timbers, huge kitchen, enormous windows and bi-fold doors, deck, high-ceilings and spectacular finishes are one-of-a-kind. And then there's the view!

“To stay in this riverfront house is to inhabit a dream. Nick designed (with the help of an architect) and built (also with help) the soaring post and beam home in a woodsy spot overlooking the Hudson River. From the primary bed we woke to majestic sunrises (a stash of eye shades are available for those who don't want that early morning alarm clock) and sat on the terrace far into the evening watching lights on the water and in the sky. Massive beams, the extra long black kitchen island, and a powerful open staircase highlight the masculine aesthetic, but architectural details like the gorgeous plumbing fixtures and set of antique office doors, not to mention the glass-walled showers, make it sexy. Airbnb is at its best when it lets me try out someone else's fantasy.”

You can tell everything's been thoughtfully sourced and curated and the house is full of personality. My dad, an architect, spent the entire time marveling at the design and details. Incredible view of the Hudson River and Rondout Lighthouse. I could (and did) sit and watch the ships and trains passing along the river all day long. On top of all that Nick’s truly a great guy! Hope to stay at Shatemuc again. Thanks Nick!”
— Khyber“We only stayed for a short visit, but this was one of those places left a warm, positive impression. It's very clear from the moment you walk in that a lot of thought, care, and personality went into this home. It feels very personal while still being modern, fresh, and impeccably clean. You can tell the kind of person the owner is by all the books, art, and accolades peppered throughout the space.
One of our favorite parts was discovering the little details throughout the house, from hidden rooms to unexpected surprises that made exploring the space fun. The river view is also stunning, waking up to seeing a bald eagle perched outside was pretty unforgettable.
It's not just a rental but someone's home that's been designed and loved. We would absolutely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable, beautifully curated place to stay.”
